Global Competence Through Career and Technical Education (Asia Society)
Today’s students will be graduating into a world that is ever more interconnected. One in ten Americans is foreign born, and local communities—urban, suburban, and rural—are growing more diverse. Our students will be working with people from different cultures, whether as part of a diverse community here at home or as part of an international team. To take advantage of global market opportunities, companies want employees with the knowledge and skills to work across cultures. Therefore, career and technical education (CTE) instructors must prepare their students to compete, connect, and cooperate on an international scale.
A new free, online professional development course from Asia Society, ACTE, and Advance CTE is now available. “Global Competence Through Career and Technical Education,” is an interactive, customizable, professional development toolkit and online course to help CTE (vocational) educators integrate global content and skills into what they are already teaching in their classrooms. These tools will give CTE educators the knowledge and confidence they need to teach with a global focus.
The online course is available through Core101.org (via a short, free registration) and the tools are available at AsiaSociety.org/CTE.
