With more than 24,000 members and subscribers, NCSS represents the spectrum of the profession involved with social studies education at all levels. NCSS brings together educators from all social science disciplines, including history, economics, political science, geography, sociology, anthropology, psychology, and law-related education.

Advertisers who purchase ad space of a half page or larger in the November/December issue of Social Education are eligible to supply additional materials for that issue. See red box below.

The November/December Social Education is not only mailed to NCSS members, but it is distributed at the annual NCSS conference. Your flyer, insert, or small takeaway is plastic wrapped with the conference copies of Social Education and placed in two key locations at the conference. The first position is at the NCSS exhibit booth at the center of the exhibit hall. The other is outside the pop-up NCSS bookstore. Please note this promotion should not be confused with the conference tote bag. 

Once your insertion order is complete and the space is reserved, you should prepare 2,500 pre-printed copies of your insert.

The insert can be no larger than 8.5 × 11 inches in size. It can be no more than 4-pages in length.

The Social Studies Professional (TSSP)*

The Social Studies Professional known as TSSP is the official newsletter of National Council for the Social Studies (NCSS). We send it by email to all of our members 24 times per year (2 times per month). The current issue and past issues are also posted at the NCSS website, at www.socialstudies.org/publications/TSSP. Generally, we will email the newsletter during the second week (issue A in the chart below) and the last week (issue B) of each month, with variations for holidays.

Top and Mid-Page Ads. Premium advertisements appears as the top-most banner or the item below the news section.

End-Page Ads. A regular advertisement (or more than one) may appear as the final item(s) below the stack of news and announcements. There is no discount for multiple issues. Readers may have to scroll down the newsletter before seeing these ads. The stacked order of regular ads will reflect the time at which NCSS reserved them, with the earliest appearing above the next reserved, and so on.

Caveats. NCSS will add the words “Sponsored Message” to your newsletter text, unless you have already done so.

(Editors reserve the right to refuse any ad.)

NCSS uses MailChimp to deliver the online TSSP newsletter. MailChimp advises: Avoid animated GIFS and Flash, which are not guaranteed to work. Use static images at the main ad in your campaign. (b) Avoid using JavaScript in your ad links, most email clients block it as a security precaution. (c) Avoid links for Google’s DoubleClick ads, which often break when used in MailChimp campaigns, or you might not be able to track them. This is due to the way the DoubleClick URL interacts with MailChimp redirects.

The Conference Program will be distributed to all attendees of the 98th NCSS Annual Conference in Chicago. Advertising in the Program is the best way to ensure maximum exposure for your products and services, and to build booth traffic. The Program is the official guide to the conference, and includes the exhibit hall floor plan and exhibitor listings.

*Tabbed Sections Dividers. Tabbed section dividers are of heavier weight paper stock with a tab that sticks out and holds the place of a special position in the Program. Advertisers can put their message on both sides of the divider. The tab must reference the specific section it begins. The available sections are “Sessions,” “Exhibits,” and “Index/Maps”


Reserve a tear-out coupon in the back of the program book for attendees to redeem at your exhibit booth. Exhibitors who provide special offers, prizes, or gifts, experience heavier traffic and report better show results. Coupons are also a great way to gather more qualified leads.
