In August, the Madison Chapter of Rho Kappa at James Madison High School in Virginia was able to box up about 500 of their old textbooks and ship them to schools in Rockport, Texas that lost everything from Hurricane Harvey.  They partnered with Hayfield High School, another school in their county who had a teacher originally from the area and together contributed over 12000 pounds of supplies.  The pallets arrived Oct 23^rd in Texas and are ready to be distributed to the schools, teachers, and students who need them.  

The Madison Chapter partnered with the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum (USHMM) last year to have students trained to transcribe videos for the museum.  They have over 21,000 hours of videos of survivors and rescuers that need to be transcribed and subtitled in order to be ADA compliant and posted on their website.  Last year 25 students participated and collectively finished five videos, as each video takes hours to complete to subtitle and then match up the text and the sound.  It is a wonderful experience for students who are interested in the time period and they learn more in depth about the Holocaust and how it affected the daily lives of people just like us, rather than the global story that is taught in school.  The stories they hear have sad parts, but they also have funny stories and stories of hope.  Advisors Christina Palo and Marissa Petty are looking forward to having more students participate this year and get more videos finished.
