How can K–12 teachers, administrators, and parents offer students the tools they need to become responsible citizens in a shrinking, increasingly interdependent world?

Drawing upon nearly forty years of teaching and developing curricula, Carl Hobert, author of "Raising Global IQ: Preparing Our Students for a Shrinking Planet" (Beacon Press), offers creative, well-tested, and understandable pedagogical ideas that help improve our children’s GIQ, or Global Intelligence Quotient. This presentation seeks to help educators to increase students’ understanding of the multicultural world in which we live, noting the specific and subtle differences in individuals and in cultural groups, both locally and globally; and the importance of embracing the diversity of this increasingly interconnected world. Discover an engaging and groundbreaking roadmap that improves the global literacy of US K-12 students, including how to:

  • Integrate global literacy in your existing K-12 school's or district's program planning;
  • Identify tools and resources available in K-12 communities that support the growth of global literacy; and
  • Create new, effective, and "remodeled" global literacy plans that can be implemented immediately.

Presenter:

Carl Hobert is a graduate of Middlebury College and the Tufts University Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy. As Director of the Boston University Global Literacy Institute, and author of "Raising Global IQ: Preparing Our Students for a Shrinking Planet" (Beacon Press), he is a leading voice on improving the global literacy of US K-12 communities. With convincing examples of what he has experienced living on 5 continents working with youth and adults on K-12 global education reform, he lays out a compelling vision for how US K-12 educators, parents and students have the power to improve global literacy, with innovation, passion, and teamwork.
