Learn to be a Contest Judge (National History Day)

National History Day is looking for Judges for the National Contest 2017. About 500 judges are needed to evaluate the projects.
National History Day (NHD) is a yearlong program that engages students in grades 6-12 in rigorous historical research about a topic of their choice. The result is a host of interesting projects that are evaluated at competitions beginning with the local level. Students who advance to state/affiliate contests and are successful there move on to the National Contest, which is held in June at the University of Maryland, College Park.
Judging occurs from 8am-5pm on June 12th and 13th. NHD provides parking, lunch, and "an awe-inspiring experience that will fill you with joy and hope for the future. Many of our judges consider National Contest judging to be their most fulfilling professional development experience of the year."
Student projects fall into one of five categories: table-top exhibit, dramatic performance, documentary, website, and traditional paper. Within each, except the paper category, students may enter as individuals or a group of up to 5. Judging is done by grade-level division. Junior division (grades 6-8) judging occurs on June 12th; Senior division (grades 9-12) occurs on June 13th. Many judges volunteer both days, though that is not essential.
Judging in the paper and website categories begins during the last two weeks of May. Teams in these categories finalize their results after interviewing the students at the contest. If you are interested in these categories, please block this review time on your calendar before you sign up.
