President Trump signed the FY 2018 Omnibus Bill on Friday, March 23. This spending bill will fund the government for the remaining six months of the 2018 fiscal year ending September 30, and includes billions more than reflected in the President’s FY 2018 Budget Request released last May.

As you can see on both the Education Week and NCH update, for the most part, funding for areas with potential to support social studies education has been approved at the same levels as for FY 2017. More specifically:

• American History and Civics National Activities Grants (Title II, Part B), remains at $1.7 million
• Congressional & Presidential National Academies (Title II, Part B), remains at $1.8 million
• The Every Student Succeeds Act (Title II, Part A), remains at $2.1 billion.

One exception per the Education Week article shared above is Title IV-A (Student Support and Academic Enrichment Block Grant), previously funded at $400,000 in FY 2017, it has been funded at $1.1 billion for FY 2018.
