Jan L. Tucker Memorial Lecture
Dr. Bárbara C. Cruz is a professor of social science education at the University of South Florida. Originally from Cuba, Dr. Cruz's research and teaching interests include multicultural and global perspectives in education, English language learners, Latin America and the Caribbean, and the infusion of arts across the curriculum. She was the director of the Global Schools Project, a collaborative program between USF and the local public schools that prepared teachers and students for an increasingly globalized society. With support from the U.S. Department of State, Dr. Cruz has also hosted at USF dozens of international teachers to sharpen pedagogic skills, explore crosscultural perspectives, and learn about American society. As Jan L. Tucker's former graduate student, Dr. Cruz will present an intellectural biography, which traces Dr. Tucker's philosophy of education and his application of theory to practice in global education in K-12 public schools and teacher education programs, to commemorate the 20th anniversay of the death of Jan L. Tucker.
