FIRE's First Amendment Essay Contest
FIRE's (Foundation for Individual Rights in Education) Free Speech Essay Contest for high school juniors and seniors is now open. $20,000 in prizes are up for grabs! Apply by December 31, 2018.

U.S Department of State Offers Travel Scholarships
The U..S. Department of State provides over 1,000 merit-based scholarships each year for U.S. high school students to study abroad for a summer or an academic year in over 25 countries. The application period is open now until December 11, 2018. Scholarships include international airfare, tuition, program costs, as well as meals and housing often with a host family. YSA Announces $1,000 MLK Day of Service Grants for Students
Youth Service America (YSA) is now accepting applications for the 2019 MLK Day of Service Grants to activate youth volunteers on MLK Day of Service Weekend. Funded by the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation, these grants offer youth development organizations, community-based organizations, and schools/schools districts grant funding and capacity-building training to effectively recruit and engage young people in meaningful service activities.

The National Museum of the American Indian offers a free symposium broadcast on November 1, 2018 from 2 pm - 5:30 pm ET. Watch live on that day to hear experts discuss the need and explore how to transform education about Native Americans to inspire a more comprehensive vision of history and our shared experiences! CivXNow Civic Education Survey: Deadline October 15
Do you think we provide good civic education in the USA today? Let us hear your voice! NCSS is part of a coalition called CivXNow working to expand and improve civic education. Jose Antonio Vargas Added to Annual Conference Line-up in Chicago 

Jose Antonio Vargas is an award winning Pulitzer-Prize winning journalist, Emmy-nominated filmmaker, and a leading voice for the human rights of immigrants. He is also the founder of Define American, the nation's leading non-profit media and culture organization that fights injustice and anti-immigrant hatred. His newly published memoir is titled Dear America: Notes from an Undocumented Citizen. Hear him speak in Chicago November 27 - December 2 at the Annual Conference. (See more)
