Be inspired this summer! Attend one of the Smithsonian American Art Museum's week-long institutes in Washington, D.C., July 8 – 11 or July 22 – 26, 2019. Join educators from across the country for an exciting exploration of the connections among American art, social studies and English/language arts. Museum professionals lead participants in interactive content sessions, gallery talks, and hands-on activities that use American art to make interdisciplinary connections and foster critical thinking skills. Participants will become confident in their ability to integrate art into their curriculum, share lesson ideas, and leave with a tool kit of resources they can put to use in the classroom. Priority will be given to social studies and English/language arts teachers for grades 6-12. Teachers may apply as individuals or as part of a team.
Application Deadline: March 31, 2019
Cost: $200 per participant.
A limited number of $500 scholarships are available to help cover travel costs, and a low-cost housing option is offered through a local university. Graduate credits will be available at an additional cost.
