Century Knights Rho Kappa Holds Collection Drives for Local and International Charities

The Century Knights of Rho Kappa chapter at Century High School in Sykesville, Maryland (chapter advisor Anne Dorwart) has done two main service projects this year. They collected food and water for the Cold Weather Shelter in their county.  The Cold Weather Shelter permits homeless people to spend the night out of the cold.  In the morning they are given water, a breakfast bar of some variety, and a snack to take with them. The Century Knights chapter decided to help a local group and collect granola and other bars, snacks, and bottles of water.  They held the drive at the school for a week and then donated the items to the shelter.  The chapter at that time had 8 members who were encouraging the school community to donate and took up two boxes and two cases of water.

The Century Knights chapter is currently collecting books for the Shildeg School in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.  A local professor who has ties to Century High School went there last summer and spoke to the faculty sponsors of local Rho Kappa chapters about the school.  That information was shared with the chapter, which decided to do a second project that would benefit this school. The membership of the Century Knights chapter is now 16, so they are in the process of collecting K-8 grade fiction and non-fiction books throughout the school to send to the Mongolian school to help them teach the English language.  They have joined with another group in the school and have collection boxes in various places to collect as many books as they can send.
