Statistics in Schools, SIS (U.S. Census)

SIS offers free social studies—history, sociology and geography—resources to K-12 teachers and students to help them understand the value and everyday use of statistics. These materials include standards-based activities based on a range of historical eras and a variety of topics. Visit www.census.gov/schools to access all of the Census resources for educators.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts that statistics-related jobs will increase by more than 30 percent between 2014 and 2024. This research shows that there is a need for greater statistics knowledge in today’s data-driven economy. SIS fills a void that exists in statistics education materials by using real-life census data to teach skills that students need now more than ever before. As the nation prepares for the upcoming census that will take place in 2020, these resources can be used to express the importance of the census as well.
