National Council for the Social Studies (NCSS) invites you to join us from July 12-13, 2021, for its Summer Leadership Institute (SLI), Think Global - Act Local! As COVID-19 continues to affect us globally and unite us in efforts to combat the pandemic, we have noticed the need to also reconnect locally to create meaningful contributions to our communities.

This year’s two-day SLI event will showcase ways to build strong connections between NCSS state, regional, and local councils and community organizations who share similar visions to advocate for and promote the social studies profession. To view the event’s schedule, please see below.

NCSS members will engage live with NCSS President Anton Schulzki and NCSS Executive Director Lawrence M. Paska, Ph.D., regarding 2021-2022 NCSS initiatives to:

  • support leadership groups and engagement,
  • build strong communities, and
  • partner with others who share common social studies goals in your community.

Plus, you will receive expert tips from Shawn Healy, Ph.D., iCivics Senior Director, Policy and Advocacy, on best practices for NCSS affiliates to conduct state-level advocacy!

Then join us for an abbreviated second day featuring a one-hour workshop on how to submit a resolution for the 65th House of Delegates Assembly (NCSS Annual Conference, November 2021). You will receive the latest updates on the submittal timeline and gain the opportunity to brainstorm your ideas to build your best resolution!

In addition to this professional learning, NCSS affiliate leaders will enjoy a full second day exploring best practices and tips for affiliated council leaders, special interest community leaders, and operations committee members. NCSS affiliate leaders will not want to miss this invitation-only event to collaborate and share ideas with their peers! Check your inbox for your affiliate leader invitation.

SLI is free* for NCSS members with registration.
* Invitation-only events are noted below.
