Fred Mednick

Jan L. Tucker Memorial Speaker

A former English teacher and high-school principal, Fred Mednick fired himself in 2000 and founded Teachers Without Borders.  TWB's mission is to connect teachers to information and each other so that they may close the education divide.  TWB's network now spans 177 countries.  Dr. Mednick is fond of saying: “Brains are evenly distributed around the world, but education is not.” Teachers Without Borders has been highlighted by Desmond Tutu and is the recipient of the Champion of African Education award and the 2018 Luxembourg Peace Prize. Fred is also a professor at Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) and holds an appointment with Johns Hopkins University’s School of Education. At VUB, Dr. Mednick teaches courses on global social change, non-profit leadership, modern educational systems, peace and human rights education, girls’ education, and education in emergencies. He is currently working on education policy change to support critical thinking in a world of “alt-facts,” and has just completed a new book, “Outside My Window: An Eyewitness View of Teacher Leaders Changing the World.”
