Free Professional Learning Opportunity
Through a grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, National Council for the Social Studies (NCSS) in partnership with the National Center for Literacy Education (NCLE) will provide free professional learning, tools, and resources to support 50 teams of middle level and high school teachers from across the nation to utilize the College, Career, and Civic Life (C3) Framework for Social Studies State Standards to meet the goals of the Common Core State Standards for English Language Arts. To qualify as a team, each team must include at least 5 people who will agree to meet regularly to share learning and participate in online professional support. A team might be as large as a school, a district social studies department, or a state level network.
The program provides multiple opportunities over an 18-month period for engaging in on-demand virtual professional learning around topics that are built around your interests and needs. If selected, your team will get access to:
- high quality professional development, resources, and tools to be used in ways customized to the questions and needs of the team.
- support in creating a process for identifying and measuring student outcomes to inform instructional practices and student success
- coaching for the team facilitator about how to establish a continuous cycle of inquiry among teachers to share, receive feedback, and adjust instruction as needed,
- team facilitators who attend the 2014 NCSS Annual Conference and meet the project requirements will receive a $400 honorarium following the conference. Groups that continue the project will be eligible for a second travel stipend for attendance at the 2015 NCSS Annual Conference.
