Agenda Overview

On Day 1, our host organization (Discovery Education) will share new resources that support civic learning. All participants will then prepare for Capitol Hill visits: What will your Hill visit look like? Hill visit materials will be available for pick-up. We will conclude with a Welcome Reception and time for networking.

Day 2 will begin on Capitol Hill, with your pre-scheduled visits to Congressional representatives from your state. You will return to Silver Spring by 1:30 PM to debrief from your Capitol Hill visits. Later, you will organize into small groups to develop your own state and local resources for social studies advocacy and public engagement. This is an excellent chance to develop a social studies advocacy program for your council or district.

On Day 3, learn about the process for writing Resolutions that become official NCSS positions on key social studies issues. Then, choose to continue developing state/local advocacy resources, expand NCSS' own advocacy toolkit, or draft Resolutions for discussion at our Annual Conference in San Francisco.
