Global Learning Contest and Scholarship (Grades 8-12) AFS-USA

Global Learning Contest and Scholarship (Grades 8-12) AFS-USA

A scholarship contest designed to facilitate global learning inside and outside of the classroom is now open to all students in grades 8-12. For the third consecutive year, AFS-USA has sponsored Project: Change, a contest that prompts students to analyze global issues and then submit their ideas for a volunteer project that could have a meaningful impact in one of eleven target countries. By participating in this critical thinking exercise, students both learn about the issues affecting global communities and employ 21st century skills to develop strategies for creating a better world.
Now through January 17, 2017, students can submit their ideas via essay or short video. If a student’s idea is chosen as the winning project, he or she will receive a full scholarship to travel abroad and put his or her vision into action on a two week program with AFS. Nine other students will also receive scholarships to participate in the program.
Previous scholarship winners have implemented projects in Russia, Colombia, and India addressing issues like cultural heritage, literacy, and nutrition. More details about Project: Change, including a description of past winning projects, can be found on the AFS website: www.afsusa.org/project-change.
