Silver Spring – July 1, 2009 – The National Council for the Social Studies is pleased to announce that Sydele E. (Syd) Golston, an Arizona school administrator and former classroom teacher at the secondary and post-secondary level for over 30 years, will begin a 12-month term as President of NCSS on July 1.   --> read more »

NCSS is seeking candidates for Vice-President, and the Board of Directors. Nominees are also needed for the Fund for the Advancement of Social Studies Education (FASSE) board. You may nominate yourself, or recommend a colleague member who has experience as an affiliate council or associated group leader. NCSS is pleased this year to offer a limited number of conference registration scholarships to teachers who have never been able to attend its annual meetings in the past for lack of financial support. All teachers from Colorado who meet the qualifications are eligible to apply.

Sue Blanchette, US. history teacher at Hillcrest High School in Dallas Texas was elected vice-president of NCSS. As vice president, Blanchette is in line to assume the NCSS presidency July 2011.
