“Keeping the Spirit of Democracy Alive Across the Nation” is the theme of this year’s American Lawyers Alliance (ALA) Law-Related Education Teacher of the Year Contest.
For over 50 years, ALA has recognized the vital role that teachers play in Civics Education.  One Middle School and Two High School teachers will be chosen as the ALA LRE 2017 Teachers of the Year.  Each winner will receive a $1,500 cash award at the ALA Annual Meeting in New York City in early August 2017.
A scholarship contest designed to facilitate global learning inside and outside of the classroom is now open to all students in grades 8-12. For the third consecutive year, AFS-USA has sponsored Project: Change, a contest that prompts students to analyze global issues and then submit their ideas for a volunteer project that could have a meaningful impact in one of eleven target countries. By participating in this critical thinking exercise, students both learn about the issues affecting global communities and employ 21st century skills to develop strategies for creating a better world.
