Mountains: A Global Resource

Under a grant from the U.S. Agency for International Development, NCSS has partnered with The Mountain Institute (www.mountain.org) to design a curriculum on "Mountains: A Global Resource." The goal of this one-year NCSS/TMI project has been to increase understanding and awareness among NCSS members, their students, and a variety of other target groups of the unique biophysical, cultural, and economic characteristics of the world’s mountain communities and environmnts. The project also will raise awareness for the value of international sustainable mountain development work and its benefit to the United States. The resulting curriculum, along with background materials, appeared in the September 1999 issue of Social Education and here on socialstudies.org.
