Do you know of an excellent social studies educator, program, or dissertation that deserves recognition? NCSS is accepting nominations and applications for the following 2017 awards and grants. Awardees will be recognized at the NCSS Annual Conference, which will be held in San Francisco, November 16-19, 2017. Harvard University is launching a free online course called “American Government” through their HarvardX program. Free and open to all, “American Government” by Thomas E. Patterson -- Harvard Bradlee Professor of Government and the Press in the Kennedy School of Government -- launches on April 24. Offering a comprehensive introduction to American government and politics, this course is ideal for:
      Teachers looking to explain the American political system to their students.

The Library of Congress is seeking applications from current world history or world geography teachers for a Teacher-in-Residence position within its Educational Outreach division during the 2017-18 school year.

The National Geographic Society (NGS) is now offering education-focused grants to individual educators! NGS is looking for educators who have new ideas for effective strategies in teaching and learning—at any age level, with any audience, and in any location. NGS aims to support educators in formal and informal settings, in community education and outreach, and educator professional development. Grants will be awarded on a quarterly basis.
