NASBE Briefing on Assessment Systems and ED Guidance on RTTT Assessment Program

Please find attached a summary of a briefing held by the National Association of State Boards of Education (NASBE). In addition to sharing highlights from their new report titled, Reform at a Crossroads: A Call for Balanced Systems of Assessment and Accountability, panelists discussed the need to rethink the way American students are evaluated and how schools are held accountable. Briefing attendees also had the opportunity to hear Judy Wurtzel, Deputy Assistant Secretary, speak in more detail about the Department of Education’s (ED) plans to distribute the $350 million reserved from the Race to the Top Fund to support the development of common assessments tied to common college and career ready standards.
