Proposed Social Studies Assessment in Massachusetts Threatened: NCSS sends letter to State Board of Ed.

NCSS was recently informed by officers in the Massachusetts CSS of plans to eliminate or delay required History and Social Science Exams for 10th graders in their state.

NCSS has been a strong advocate of the need, in the current climate, for state level social studies assessments in the absence of a federal equivalent. When we learned that the proposed exam was in jeopardy in Massachusetts, we immediately sent the attached letter to the state Board of Education that stresses the importance of implementing the proposed exams as scheduled.

We encourage NCSS members in the state and from around the country to join NCSS in encouraging the Mass BOE to keep its commitment to social studies!
