Education Report: September 12, 2008

See the attached Education Report for September 12, 2008, courtesy of Washington Parters for insight into the current public policy debate relating to education and into what the Congress has been up to since returning from their six week recess.

You will notice that the current situation in Congress is the same as it was prior to the recess: members remain deadlocked on the oil issue and they run the risk of having to shut down the government if the do not come to an agreement by the end of the month.

Highlights in terms of the debate surrounding education policy include a rundown of an event on the all important issue of assessments held by the Educational Testing Service (ETS).The impact of NCLB and the recent emphasis on assessments has been a central concern of the social studies community, so we strongly suggest that you devote some attention to the rundown of this event. Washington Partners has provided an expanded report on these proceedings, which is also attached in the legislative updates section.

A note on taking full advantage of these Education Reports: be sure to quickly scan through the "New Publications" and "In the News" sections of the Education Report, which contain links to useful articles and resources what may relate to your particular interests.
