New Co-Editors for Social Studies and the Young Learner

Andrea Libresco and Jeannette Balantic have been chosen to be co-editors of Social Studies and the Young Learner for a five-year term beginning with the September/October 2011 issue.

Dr. Andrea Libresco is Graduate Director of Elementary Education in the Department of Teaching, Literacy, and Leadership at Hofstra University in Hempstead, New York. Jeannette Balantic is the Social Studies Curriculum Coordinator in the Garden City School District in Garden City, New York.

Outgoing editor Linda Bennett said, “We are excited that this professor-teacher team will be guiding this peer-reviewed journal for the next five years. Elementary classroom teachers of every stripe will benefit from the breadth and depth of Andrea’s and Jeanette’s combined experience.” Dr. Bennett, whose term as editor began in September 2006, is Associate Dean for Academic Programs in the College of Education at the University of Missouri.

Libresco and Balantic were chosen from a field of excellent candidates by a com- mittee of seven members, chaired by NCSS President Steven Goldberg. The committee concluded its work at the NCSS Annual Conference in Denver.
