1. Budget and Appropriations
-It has been quiet on Capitol Hill. Members of Congress are on their week-long July 4th Recess, but face a daunting number of tasks to complete once they return including: Passing the remaining appropriations bills, healthcare reform hearings, confiming a Supreme Court Justice and other key appointments to the Obama Administration.
-Ranking Member John Kline of the House Education and Labor Committee announced the appointment of new Ranking Members for several key subcommittees.
-Arne Duncan gave an important speech on teacher effectiveness at the NEA summer meeting in San Diego.
-The House Appropriations Subcommittee on labor, Health and Human Services and Education will unveil their proposed budget for the federal agencies it oversees including the Dept. of Education.
