Education Report December 11, 2009


1. Budget and Appropriations
-The House of Representatives adopted an Omnibus spending plan for FY 2010. The package included a bill making appropriations for the Departments of Labor, Health and human Services and Education.
-The bill provides $67 billion in discretionary spending-a 5% increase over FY 2009.
-The bill then went to the Senate who had an even more difficult decision than House. They plan on voting on the bill this weekend.

-NAGB releases mathematics results from 2009 NAEP Exam
-ED hosts final ESEA Forum on College-and Career-Readiness
-BRT releases report on Postsecondary Reforms
-Education and Labor Committee examines Common Standards effort
-NBPTS announcing New Certification Plans
-NAF holds event on School Districts' role in reform efforts
-CAP hosts event to discuss measuring Teacher Effectiveness
