Teaching About Syria and the Rise of ISIS

This webinar will share key details and teaching resources on the humanitarian crisis in Syria and the rise of ISIS. Hear from the Director of www.Iamsyria.org, Andrew Beiter, on the current situation on the ground, how to approach this topic with your students, and how your students can take action.

Presenter:  Andrew Beiter is a Social Studies teacher at Springville Middle School outside of Buffalo, NY. He is the Director of the Summer Institute for Human Rights and Genocide Studies, and the co-founder of the Educators’ Institute for Human Rights, a conference on the Holocaust for Rwandan teachers in Kigali. A Regional Education Coordinator for the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum, Drew is the co-Education Director of the Robert H. Jackson Center and the Holocaust Resource Center of Buffalo, also helping to create the group I Am Syria.  He has organized numerous workshops on human rights and genocide prevention around the country, In September 2013, he interviewed Secretary of State John Kerry about the U.S. response to chemical weapons attacks in Syria in a Google Hangout with journalists Nicholas Kristof and Lara Setrakian.
