Vargas to Receive NCSS Spirit of America Award


Silver Spring, Md., Nov. 17, 2014 – Filmmaker, Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist, Undocumented American and Immigration Reform Advocate Jose Antonio Vargas has been selected to receive the Spirit of America Award at the 94th Annual Conference of the National Council for the Social Studies (NCSS) in Boston, MA, November 21-23. Vargas will be presented with a $1,000 honorarium and a commemorative gift in recognition of his exemplary contributions to the “spirit of American Democracy.”   --> read more »

Henry Louis Gates unable to speak at conference


Henry Louis Gates, Jr. has canceled his scheduled speaking engagement on Friday, November 21 at the NCSS Annual Conference. Dr. Gates will be traveling abroad on behalf of Harvard University, though he will appear on Thursday, November 20 as part of the College and University Faculty Assembly (CUFA) annual meeting.

Jose Antonio Vargas will serve as the keynote speaker on Friday at 11:15AM.
