Since any action on this will take place at the next BOD meeting, it comes under my term. I had already placed it on the agenda and have exchanged emails with Karen B and Brenda. There is no need to be concerned.

RE:"When it comes to history . . . "

Last night I had a conversation with my teenage son about the importance of reading history and various news sources to provide context and insight.  His response was "Mom, that is old school.  We only want to read about what interests us.  The internet is about connecting ideas and a network of real time information.  You can get what you want when you need it."  While he has a point, I wonder at what cost the instant access to information has come.  How do you [More]

Fascinated by Mr. Duncan's use of words. In 2008 "The Myth & Reality of NCLB" was published. I contributed a chapter entitled "Unintended Consequences". In my chapter I cited Lortie as the originator of the term. In my chapter I discuss science and social science as the stepchildren of the curriculum under the demands of NCLB.
I am thrilled that Mr. Duncan wrote an article that raises consciousness on the integral role of social studies in the curriculum. In the new [More]

I"m sorry

NCSS Connected - Mon, 05/23/2011 - 9:09am
From : eGroups>>NCSS Board of Directors

I am so, so sorry I missed the conference call.  I was traveling and I took two cell phones to ensure I'd have battery life while in transit.  I pestered Tim to get all the information early so that I would have what I needed to call in.  And then the day of the call (Imagine six women in a car with all their gear....packing and unpacking....), I asked my travel mate to hold the paperwork while I loaded some things.  Long story short, the paper got passed among others and [More]
