-The House of Representatives adopted an Omnibus spending plan for FY 2010. The package included a bill making appropriations for the Departments of Labor, Health and human Services and Education.
-The bill provides $67 billion in discretionary spending-a 5% increase over FY 2009.   --> read more »

On December 10, 2009, the House of Representatives adopted an Omnibus spending plan for FY 2010. The package included a bill making appropriations for the Departments of Labor, Health and Human Services and Education. The Omnibus bill was then passed by the Senate on December 13, 2009, and is awaiting the signature of the President.   --> read more »

Attached please find a summary of Tuesday December 8. 2009 ED Stakeholder meeting. The topic for ED’s last Stakeholder Forum on issues relating to the reauthorization of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) focused on college- and career-ready graduates.

Attached is the Kentucky Council for the Social Studies letter on Common Core Standards that has been sent to Gene Wilhoit, Executive Director of the CCSSO.

On Tuesday, December 8, the House Education and Labor Committee held a hearing to learn more about states' efforts to help improve the nation's competitiveness by adopting a common core of college and career readiness standards. The hearing focused on the Common Core Standards Initiative and its progress and promise. Attached please find a summary of the hearing.
